Agriculture and Crop Protection
An accepted world leader in all fields of ecotoxicology testing, Springborn Smithers' combined U.S. and Swiss staff represent a level of unsurpassed experience. These laboratories offer a variety of programs in the areas of aquatic, sediment (fresh water and marine) and terrestrial toxicology, in addition to bioconcentration. Specific areas of expertise include target and non-target insect studies, aquatic and terrestrial plant testing, crop safety and efficacy testing, fish and invertebrate early life-stage and life-cycle exposures, as well as more sophisticated and specialized studies, like microcosms, endocrine disruption studies, accumulation and bioconcentration in fish and invertebrates.
Springborn Smithers by virtue of its state-of-the-art facilities and experienced staff, has the capacity and expertise to test difficult materials (e.g., unstable, low solubility) and analytically confirm exposure levels in the low parts per trillion range in a variety of sediment, soil and aquatic matrices. Springborn Smithers has demonstrated experience with over 175 species and has gained a well-deserved reputation for its work with insects, earthworms, and a variety of fish and invertebrate species.
Industrial and Specialty Chemical
The chemical manufacturers of the world have been important customers of SSL since 1969 when we began providing ecotoxicity services. As our capabilities in product chemistry and bidegradation testing grew in the 1980s, and avian testing in 2000, our services to the chemical industry also grew. Springborn Smithers Laboratories has worked with many of the chemical industry task forces, trade associations and product working groups over the years to solve unique exposure and testing requirements for different chemistries. Today, we continue to expand our facility and capabilities to provide the best and most comprehensive environmental testing services to the diverse and complex chemical market.
Pharmaceutical
Springborn Smithers Laboratories has provided the pharmaceutical and veterinary medicine industries with environmental assement testing and consulting services since 1987, with the publication of the FDA's Environmental Assessment Technical Assistance Handbook. While the need for environmental assessment services accelerated through the early 1990s and declined through the mid and late 1990s, Springborn Smithers Laboratories adjusted to the market demands always providing high quality and timely testing services. Today the demands are expanding due to the expected promulgation of new environmental risk assessment testing guidelines through EMEA. Springborn Smithers Laboratories is also expanding our capabilities through improved analytical instrumentation, test systems and novel study designs including endocrine disrupter studies to meet the new environmental testing needs of the pharmaceutical sector.
