With rapidly escalating concern about the impact of endocrine disrupting chemicals on aquatic environments, Springborn is working with OECD and U.S. EPA on validation and screening assays designed to evaluate test methods for screening for endocrine disrupting chemicals in fish. The endpoints evaluated to date include:
- Plasma vitellogenin
- Sex steroids
- Gonadosomatic index (GSI)
- Fatpad index (FPI)
- Nuptial tubercle scoring and mapping
- Gonadal histology
Springborn has conducted several tests using the proposed OECD test guidelines (OECD, 2005) for mysid two-generation testing. Endpoints covered in these studies include survival, growth (as total length and dry weight), and specific reproductive output measures (time to first brood, viability of offspring, brood size, and sex ratio).
Springborn is conducting the ecotoxicology studies for Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program testing. View the ecotoxicology presentation from Springborn's Research Director, Mark Cafarella, in the Smithers Viscient Endocrine Disruptor webinar.
