The combination of having more than 30 years of quality regulatory testing experience on aquatic organisms, a veteran staff and state-of-the-art-facilities enables Springborn Smithers to apply our testing techniques to a wide range of unique study designs. We have developed numerous unique exposure systems ranging from very small systems designed to conserve difficult to synthesize test substances, to closed systems for volatile test substances, to a wide range of unique dosing and exposure scenarios. Numerous field simulated studies and model ecosystem studies, including nearly 20 indoor and outdoor microcosm studies, have been conducted since 1990. Our laboratories in Horn, Switzerland have developed what is perhaps the largest outdoor microcosm facility in Europe. The key to the success of SSL's specially designed studies is our ability to develop a synergy between understanding a customer's needs and our vast knowledge of how the data will be evaluated by regulators and other stake-holders.

Springborn Smithers is uniquely positioned to help those in need of a world-class testing laboratory that not only understands the scientific process but the legal ramifications of ecologically sensitive matters. Special studies can be designed to answer a specific safety concern to be used for advertising, product stewardship or litigation. These studies can be as simple as comparing two different products or as complex as creating simulated wetlands, estuaries, rice fields or aquatic microcosms.
