Avian Toxicology
Avian Toxicology
Springborn's Avian Toxicology Center in Snow Camp, North Carolina offers laboratory and field studies. Our avian toxicology program concentrates on toxicity testing, non-target organism pesticide exposure characterization and risk assessment, as well as contaminant induced endocrine disruption in birds. Snow Camp is equipped to perform reproduction studies including two-generational studies, dietary toxicity studies, oral toxicity studies (LD50), avian inhalation toxicity and tier 1 and 2 endocrine disruptor testing. Most studies can be performed with either mallard ducks or northern bobwhite quail and/or with red-wing blackbirds, house finches, house sparrows and brown-headed cowbirds.
This Research Center also offers herbicide exposure characterization, risk assessment as well as a variety of field studies. Field studies include avian and mammalian exposure utilizing hand-held and automated radio-telemetry, nesting success employing remote, time lapse and infrared micro-videography, environmental residue studies, behavioral studies with a variety of mammalian, avian and invertebrate species and field monitoring of endocrine disruptor effects in passerine and gallinaceous birds.
